| Ссылка: | Gabriella Cilmi was born in the Melbourne suburb of Dandenong. She attended Sacred Heart Girls' College in the suburb of Oakleigh. At a young age she acquired an interest in a wide range of musical styles ranging from Nina Simone to Led Zeppelin. Despite her natural aptitude and vocal talent, she was told that she lacked the discipline necessary to pursue a singing career. During this time she formed a garage rock band which performed cover songs of classic bands. At her mother's suggestion she recorded a demo tape with her friends.
In 2004 she captured the attention of a leading record producer while giving an impromptu rendition of the Rolling Stones song Jumping Jack Flash at a street party in Melbourne. At the age of thirteen Cilmi was flown to the United Kingdom and signed on to Island Records.
Gabriella has also sung on the theme to new UK TV Series Echo Beach which aired in early 2008 on ITV1. It is a cover of "Echo Beach" by Martha and the Muffins.
In January 2008 Gabriella supported Rufus Wainwright on his Australian tour. In February 2008 she supported the Parisian band Nouvelle Vague on their UK tour.
Gabriella Cilmi's first album is titled Lessons To Be Learned. It was recorded with Xenomania and will be released on 31st March, 2008 in the UK. A date has not yet been released for a worldwide release date. Gabriella's first single is called "Sweet About Me" was released on 17th March 2008. She has already been compared to Amy Winehouse.
Gabriella will also be supporting the Sugababes on their upcoming UK tour, as well as supporting Nouvelle Vague. |
