If my humble opinion worth anything, please let me know.
I think that forums belong to the admins/owners and in the same time to the community that use to visit and write into those forums.
Admins have the right to set rules, but the community can comply or not those rules (even by leaving the forum as a last issue).
Community can propose rules and admins can accept/refuse them. It's their choice.

I've downloaded a lot of good music from this site and I'm grateful to those who have offered it to me.
I've downloaded also a lot of CDs I knew nothing of them. Some were good, some not so ...
Sometimes I've made comments on the threads. Sometimes I've forgot to.
I agree that one have to offer if one wants to get something.
I do have a bunch of CDs that are not on this site, and I'm willing to share.
Can you imagine that I know how to use the "Save as ..." option, but I don't know how to upload something?
Can you create a post, easily to find on this forum, were a morron like me can understand what program to use,
from whom to get an approuval, and how to upload what the morron wants to share? (with an English version aside)

IMHO i think that astaroth_nl is right when he said that sharing some music is better than points given by "thx" comments.
Of course, an evoluated comment about discography, artwork or pure personal opinion on a track is more valuable that a "thx - grazie - spasiba" line. But maybe for the one that took the time to upload something it counts as a ... "there is also someone who like as me the stuff I sent".

Maybe a bit offtopic, but I really think this is important for people to know...
Oliver Kay this one is especially for you smile.gif

Note: this is a copy of one of my messages from the Epica thread with some little adjustments

---

If you want to upload something, you...

1. use winrar to rar the cd you want to upload, or use winzip if you prefer it
2. put a password on the rar or zipfile to protect yourself a bit from monitoring your online actions by third parties
3. go to www.yousendit.com or www.datapickup.com
4. fill in a fake emailadres to whom you're sending the link, or you can send it to yourself if you want
5. find the file on your comp and tell yousendit/datapickup to upload it for you
6. yousendit/datapickup will upload it which can cost you, say 30-60 minutes depending on your connection speed and the kbps quality of the album
7. you will receive a special adress to whom your upload is linked
8. share it here on the forum incl password, preferably with frontpicture and tracklist (really preferred, but it's optional as we all can google on it)
9. make us happy yes.gif

Hope this explains enough. If you still have questions, just ask thumb.gif

Btw, I also have a question for the admins here...

Shouldn't it be easier if someone makes a thread about this kind of issues and lock it at the top of the forum for quick usage/view?!
I think it's important to motivate as much people as possible to upload albums, as that's why we are all hear in the first place.. and telling them how to do it is a first good step in my opinion cool.gif

---

As you just read I already asked for an 'how to upload' thread some time ago. I still believe that it's important to make one, as there are probably quite some people who don't upload just because they don't know how to do it, and/or are to lazy to take the effort to find out.

Bit more ontopic.. I will comment further on the rules as mentioned here by the TS (topicstarter) somewhere tomorrow when I have some more time. I'm already glad to see that I got some support after writing my earlier comments thumb.gif

I already have some new comments. I'll put some right now and in time, maybe, the rest of them.
I want to say once again: me and you, Astaroth_NL, we are the community. We can influence, appreciate, comment or disagree the rules, but the decisions are on the Admins side. I owe them the server that allow us to manifest our opinions, and their effort (money, time, etc) to keep the house running.
The admins offer us the opportunity to share music and ideas here. So they can take the decisions.
But we, the community, can be ourselves, with our point of views, usualy different, with our like or dislike of types of music etc. And we can leave and search in other places what we want, if we feel that this is not the place to stay.
I like it here, for the diversity of genres, for the completly new to me bands I can find out, for conversation like this one, when different standings accept to discuss.
I don't know what it take (what computer, what capacity, what amount of money) to create a server, but the thought already tease me.
My knowlegde of IT is limited to W98, Office, some programs to manage music files and I work hard (10 to 12 hours daily) to earn some money, so I don't have enough time to search for improuvement.
I'm glad I have some sites like this one, I download a lot and hope to have time to hear it all.
I also want to share my musical prefferences (and I think that I touched a "soft spot" when I presumed that a thank you comment will be well appreciated).
So if downloading, uploading & commenting are easy, shortcuts on how to do all that, including advices on which are the best ripper, encoder, decoder, catalogging tool etc are included, than there's the best site. Why did we choosed a Russian site, where we understand not even half of the topics, I don't know. Maybe 'coz this site provide most of the said requested things.

About uploading:
Astaroth_NL, thank you for the advice. I think it's OK if one wants to share with a few.
My idea of sharing goes like this: I send a mail to the Admin "I have this CD, encoded at that quality, do you want it?", the answer should be like this "No, not needed or already had it" or "upload it in this directory, using this program and maybe password, and I'll put it the server so that everyone can have it" .

Other ideas will come in time, if asked for.

А если без смайлов, то на первой странице написанно, что к бесплатным сервисам это не относится.

As far as I remember, I hadn't said that it is bad. I've just said that we want ppl to comment on albums/tracks/groups. We hadn't said that we will ban for that.. Just wanna see more discussions.. Is it bad?? unsure.gif

I think that my aim is to make us a community.. to make FS your second home.
So I'm always glad to hear your points of views. It is really very useful for me.

Yeah,That's good idea...but I think that by this way,is there danger, that people will only just download and go...and that's the way to kill this forum...
As you said...Try to make possilble something like "Thanx" button, which can count the contributions...that maybe a possible way...
I hope,that FS will still grow smile.gif

Then we'll need another button that says "Link is broken" or "Can't download" or something. A complain button. biggrin.gif

No,that isn't that point, that admins mean....I think that they mean when you write something like "link is broken" it is OK,but writing only "Thanx"or "GR8" its not necessary...but uploaders want to know,if somebody is interested in their stuff.... So I think that the "Thanx" button can solve this problem...
