Foley Room — это особое место, где звук имеет форму и объем, где музыка с тобой разговаривает. Альбом записан с использованием т.н. “field recordings”: звуковые ландшафты города, задокументированные на сверх-чувствительные микрофоны… этим давно промышляют эстетствующие авангардисты, но Тобин пришел к этому совсем из другой субкультуры, из мира, где движением правит виниловый диск и мастерство исполнительского грува. Foley Room — особое действо. Каждый может видеть через стекло, но ключ, чтобы попасть внутрь, имеет не каждый.

I thought some of you might like to know about this months Akanda remix competition. As I mentioned last month, if you don't produce yourself but have friends that do, please pass our site URL on and spread the word!
For March we are remixing the exceptional Forss from Sonar Kollektiv. Let me give you a little back story.
Back in 2003 Sonar Kollektiv dropped an LP that stopped us in our tracks. Soulhack by Forss was a revelation. A master class in sample manipulation, laptop edits, and the power of the internet to source material. Combining the craftsmanship displayed on DJ Shadow's "Endtroducing" and the stream of consciousness approach to structure that Prefuse 73 became renowned for, Soulhack was an instant classic.
So it is with great pleasure that we present to you Paradigm Shift. A track that in many ways sums up the recurring themes present within Soulhack. It's at this point we let Fross himself introduce the track in question.
"Paradigm Shift is really just a massive patchwork of numerous samples, many taken from drifting mp3s on the net. In particular, I stole the sample in which Lawrence Lessig asks the question whether "someone who cuts and pastes something from the net is a consumer or a producer" from a random Internet radio stream. Shame on me. Sampling/Rip-Mix-Burn/Cut'n'Paste or whatever you like to call it, is I believe, a very important cornerstone of modern (maybe all?) culture. That's why I'm now handing these samples over to you, so that the creative process can go on! Enjoy!"
