I may by a bit bias as I am a huge Richie Kotzen fan but then again I couldn't get into his last CD, Get Up, it was good but it was no Slow, or even Change, which both were fantastic. Forty Deuce is Richie's new band. Yeah, it's his band name, but let me make one thing crystal clear, this is 100 % Richie Kotzen.

Richie Kotzen?s latest release Bi-Polar Blues is a retro blues vocal album which showcases Kotzen?s versatility as a gifted songwriter and guitarist. A veritable blues guitar fest, this album is comprised of popular blues standards mixed with strong original compositions that showcase Kotzen tearing it up on his guitar. Kotzen recorded and produced the album himself, playing most of the instruments (Matt Luneau contributes drums on five tracks and Rob Harrington plays bass on two tracks). The Inner Galactic Fusion Experiment
After recording the "Tilt" CD with fellow jazz/metal guitarist Greg Howe, Richie Kotzen remained in a fusion head space for a while and decided to record a solo CD in the jazz/fusion vein, hence The Inner Galactic Fusion Experience. To further himself in the fusion style, he called up super bassist Jeff Berlin to play on a few tracks. Drummer Greg Bissonette added his expertise as well, and the combination of these musicians and the songs created a musical bed for what Kotzen calls his most inspired guitar performance to date. What is unusual is the inclusion of the last two tracks, "Tramp", a vocal, blues/rock number and "Last Words" a vocal ballad of sorts. The first seven tracks however, definately fall into the high-tech fusion model and are impressively executed, especially "Dose" and "Stark". Instrumental Guitar (Electric/Fusion/Shred).

WIth legendary rhythm kings, bassist Stuart Hamm and drummer Steve Smith, 18-year-old Richie Kotzen delivered a set of highly complex instrumentals featuring guitar solos steeped in technique and attitude. Co-produced by Jason Becker, Kotzen's debut album features unpredictable guitar work and lyrical songs. Released in 1989 during the Shrapnel Records shred metal heyday, this CD has been hard to acquire ever since. Prior to the album's release, at the age of 17, Richie had traveled back and forth across the United States, playing in excess of 500 shows.
