I decided to forgo the unbelievably pretentious 'Limited Edition' of Insurgentes - and felt justified when the CD/DVDA Kscope digibook release was announced. Those who pre-ordered the latter received a link to a (free) .mp3 download of the album to appease the delay in receiving the physical copy. Those who opted to buy the recently released 'Limited Edition' where left with something resembling a paving stone.
I see Insurgentes as 'Steven Wilson plays Steven Wilson' - what ever the fuck that means. Elements of Porcupine Tree, Bass Communion and No Man are apparent within the set of ten tracks. As a matter of course, the few minutes of 'Bass Communion' style soundscapes are perhaps better than the sum total of the entire Bass Communion back catalogue.
The Opening Harmony Korine makes a real impact; and was was used as such in one of the album promo videos. Powerful soundscapes set to a distinct Wilson vocal.
Abandoner very much confirms my point about Bass Communion, although perhaps it is more typical of 'Continuum'?
Salvaging appears to be fairly regulation until a beautifully uplifting orchestral arrangement closes the track - perhaps we can hope for more of this in his future work?
The beginning of Veneno Para las Hadas reminds me very much to that of The Sky Moves Sideways - and it too is certainly a beautiful piece with some mesmerising vocal harmonies (this time it's Wilson himself rather than Suzanne Barbieri - I would have loved it had she of been involved here).
Significant Other is a stunningly layered piece complete with female harmonies accompanying Wilson, in what is an ethereal and hypnotic piece which highlights alongside the opener.
Insurgentes closes out with the perhaps aptly titled Get All You Deserve and then the title track itself, which are both slower piano driven numbers used to close the album out in a satisfying manor. Although I think SW went too far with his 'Limited Edition' the album is fantastic musically speaking.
He is, beyond doubt, at the very top of his game. The only thing which can stop his rapid ascent is himself. And before the thought creeps in, an I by no means a 'fan boy' of his. Deadwing wasn't as good as you lot made out - James Bevis 2008. |

Хармони Корайн не только этот фильм снял. вряд ли посвящается, просто SW вроде говорил, что ему нравится как это имя звучит... как и Tinto Brass. поэтому решил так песни назвать. |

Да не, меня то сюрреализм только привлекает. Я о том что местами некоторые образы и кадры чуточку "коленочные", что с сумбурной нарезкой создает ощущение, будто клип (или птичку?) взъерошили. А так да, конечно, лучше пока Хойль клипов не снимал, на мой взгляд. |
