Rodrigo y Gabriela are a Mexican musical duo who specialize in playing fast, rhythmic acoustic guitars. The pair are from Mexico City, Mexico and met there in a thrash metal band called "Tierra Acida". Growing frustrated with the limited scope of the domestic music scene, they pulled up roots and moved to Europe, where they have met considerable acclaim.
They have taken up residence in Dublin, Ireland, after hearing it was particularly welcoming to travelling musicians. Playing live gigs in various pubs and busking on Grafton Street and Temple Bar allowed them to practice their sound. They received their break when Damien Rice approached them to provide the support for his tour. In 2005 they toured extensively in festivals around the United Kingdom and beyond.
Their self-titled album Rodrigo y Gabriela was produced by the famous producer John Leckie and entered the Irish Albums Chart at #1 [1]. It was released internationally on March 13th 2006, having been given an earlier Irish release. Rodrigo y Gabriela includes covers of Led Zeppelin's "Stairway to Heaven" and Metallica's "Orion". The duo list Metallica as being among their key influences, alongside other heavy metal bands such as Megadeth, Slayer, Testament and Overkill. The other tracks are original works inspired by the places they have been and the people they have met.
Previous to this, the duo had released two records - Live In Manchester And Dublin, and re-Foc.

Познакомился сегодня с этим чудесным гитарным дуэтом - Родриго Санчес и Габриэла Куинтеро. Полностью акустическая музыка, пылкое фламенко, терзание струн испанской гитары... но не все так просто. Помимо Пако де Люсии, Эла ди Меолы и Михеля Камило, среди своих любимых музыкантов они называют Metallica, Megadeth и Slipknot! Нет-нет, на их музыке это не сказывается - это все те же горячие испанские ритмы и надрывные мелодии - но у них есть фламенко-кавера на "Stairway to Heaven" Led Zeppelin и металликовские "Orion" и "One". Так или иначе, это всего лишь еще один факт, почему эта группа мне интересна. В первую очередь же Rodrigo y Gabriela меня очаровали СВОИМИ инструментальными композициями - огненными и страстными.
У группы пока два студийных альбома и один концертник:
2003 - re-Foc
2004 - Live in Manchester and Dublin
2006 - Rodrigo y Gabriel
Ближе всего музыка напоминает фламенко, но при этом сами участники говорят, что взяли много из разных стилей и что им жутко не нравится когда их отожествляют с фламенко.
Обязательно послушайте, всем кто любит мелодичную латиноамериканскую музыку , оригинальные обработки такой классики как Stairway to heaven, One и Orion(Metallica)- прекрасные впечатления гарантированы!
