It’s during the StarBall festival in June 2005 that I:Cube delivered an original composition in the dim atmosphere of the Planetarium de La Villette in Paris, the perfect place for him in fact, who always preferes to remain mysteriously veiled behind his music, then go balls out on stage. Versatile now brings to your starving ears this mesmorizing live performance and invites you to Jump into I:Cubes Playmobil? spaceship. In this performance, he returns to his first love, with influences from Ambient masters (Biosphere, Future Sound of London or Detroit Escalator…) In an effort to travel new roads, escape the conventionalism of the electronic music lanscape and free us from the Diktat of dark and martial electro, I:cube’s mind mingles with some of his early references such as Philip K. Dick & Ray Bradbury, and childhood memories such as “L’avenir du futur", an 80s french TV show with a lethal soundtrack extratcted from Tangerine Dream’s “Rubycon". During this 55 minute trip, to be listened in one streak (and preferably laying down) the live @ Planetarium proposes a subtil encounter of “Concrete” music, Dub and Electronica, skillfully supressing the frontiers between these styles to achieve a musical Supernova. A trip to many musical destinations, after a first Ambient track, I:cube slides into timeless deep house (track 2) that leads into dreamy or dubby electronica (track 3 & 5) and futurist lullabies (track 4 & 7). After his album “3″ and before he releases his upcoming, the Cube invites us into his parallel and psychedelic vision of modern music. A dens and passionate universe colonised by KLF’s “space” and Maurizio’s tracks, a celebration of the improbable encouter of King Tubby and Philipp Glass. The album HAL, Space Odessey 2001’s mega-computer, would have dreamed to compose.

In a recent interview, I:Cube mentioned how difficult it is to finish an album. He finally triumphed over the chimera and delivered a new EP – Lucifer en Discothиque – as a prelude to his forthcoming album (he must have fought the chimera for real!)After 15 years of an almost constant production, how can any artist possibly avoid the pitfall of repetition while re-inventing his style? Cube delivers a masterly answer! As its name implies, Transpiration (“perspiration” in English) is sure to make dance floors sweat around the globe. What’s fascinating with these new tracks, especially Transpiration, is the way Chaix manages to reconcile the old with the new, his 15-year heritage of production with all the recent technological developments. This track reveals various influences, for instance Todd Terry, Godfather of the 90’s NY House, as well as Sheffield rave parties of the same era yet revisited without an ounce of pomposity. Jah Menta sums up everything that makes I:Cube’s style – a menta(l) vibe and a down-to-earth beat – with mesmerizing softness… It seems like Cube really met Lucifer after all! From the realm of Beelzebub, he brought back a track that starts like a trance based on a heavy and powerful beat mingled with synth parts seeming to weave concentric circles between Hell and reality… Here’s what Cube says about his album, due to release in February: « I spend a lot of time listening to music, I use samples (the very heart of my approach!), I put everything together and then I compose on synthesizers and machines. In short, I’m back to my old self. Now I know how to achieve what I want.

100% push the yacht out with their fanciest issue to date - including an I:Cube remix and lovely insert. As their pastiche schtick has become increasingly slicker they may have lost some of the weirdness that first endeared them to many, but you really can't argue with the Daz-fresh Jersey breeze of Magic Touch and Sapphire Slow's first hook-up. A-side they make a really sweet duo on 'Just Wanna Feel', marrying Sapphire's dreamy, distanced coos with with delicately filtered and glyding groove next to I:Cube's darker, trippier grip of late night house dynamics on the remix. On the flip, 'When I See You' lifts us back to early '90s piano house romance with spot-on keys beside a chuggin' dub by Magic Touch.
