Skepta from North London (real name Joseph Adenuga) is possibly
the most talked about underground grime artist on the circuit, and
this is his debut artist album proper. It needs to be restated

Blues & Soul, performed the world over spreading his sound across

Another week, another new dubstep imprint.. Very little is
known about our man Fisto, but according to the sales
notes he's a producer "with a large mechanical fist, last
seen on television in the 1980's". Hmmm. Well, you gotta
give the guy credit where its due - he's certainly
produced the loudest chuckle of the week in the office,
and that's gotta be worth summat right? As for the tunes -
more bass largeness and gnarly synths, with "Generation
Dub" on the flipside just nudging it with its elongated
hook...err fist.

Introducing Takomo: Pekka Kokkonen and Otto Hassinen, two
young Finnish music enthusiasts. Originally drawing
influences from dark DnB, Techno and Breakbeat, Takomo
have more recently been making a natural progression to
Dubstep. Takomo admittedly take their time to hone their
sonic signature of dark and emotional soundscapes, which
is evident when listening to a Takomo track, deep vibes
and dirty grooves rolled out mercilessly. Takomo have had
releases on several labels including Botchit Breaks,
Fusetrax and most recently Trans:verse records. They also
host a regular show entitled "Bass Heroes", with the Bass
Heroes crew on Breaks FM. The lads also dabble in Sound
design for digital art, indie films and computer games.
With versatile production and DJ'ing to boot, Takomo bring
an educated vibe, and mix it up moving fluently between
different flavors of Dubstep, Breakbeat to Electro and
DnB.

this time coming to us from H.O.D. "Staying Put" opens the
twelve with some moody chords and soulful vocals, giving
way eventually to some rough percussive drops and bass
stabs - fairly standard stuff but quite effective
nonetheless. "Wonderful" opens the flip with a drum & bass
blueprint re-configured with some nudging bass rubs and
those emotive strings, while the EP closes with the ace
"Dutty Skank", by some way the best thing here with its
useful combination of evocative soundscaping, clipped
rhymes and a boastfu,l skanking low-end.

Immigrant Recordings is the new label managed by up and
coming dubstep producers Subeena and Dot. The first
release includes four very different tracks: Justice by
Subeena, Justice Remix by Cyrus (Random Trio), Chinawhite
by Dot and Elemental's Chinawhite Remix. Head straight for
the Cyrus remix, "Justice" channelled through some sparse
filters and that metallic sound that works so well,
standing out from pretty much anything else on the twelve
with its rugged BASS posturing and determined minimalism.
Dot's "Chinawhite", meanwhile, introduces some string
samples into the mix, having the rather unexpected result
of sounding not unlike Murcof trying his hand at
Dubstep...

Another gargantuan transmission from Senseless, with
Sarantis and Sasquatch manning the controls for an
abrasive mash-up, heavy styles. Sasquatch's "Omerta" opens
the flip with a metallic tumble that's almost too harsh
for its own good - for once the signature bass drop being
nowhere to be found for the first couple of minutes,
before things get decidedly heavier and on-point when it
finally makes its weighty introduction. Sarantis take over
the flipside with a more spacious number, all wobbly bass
stabs and oscillating synths - a nauseating experience in
the most exhilarating sense, particularly for those of you
who like yr dubstep served wide and heavy. Killer!
