Berlin-based production duo Booka Shade will release their third studio album titled “The Sun & The Neon Light” on Get Physical on May 26th, 2008.
Following 2006’s Movements album and an extensive world tour which saw them play over 150 dates in 20 months Walter Merziger and Arno Kammermeier return with an album that adopts a more song-based approach weaving acoustic instruments and voices with electronics.
On the opening track “Outskirts“ and the album’s title-track „The Sun & The Neon Light“ Booka Shade have worked for the first time with a real orchestra including strings provided by the German Film Orchestra of Babelsberg. Moreover the album features four vocal numbers like “Control Me“ and the melancholic pop song “Solo City“. The melancholic undercurrent is also detectable in the track “Karma Car“ and the emotional song “Sweet Lies“.
More club-oriented tracks are „Redemption“, the schaffel track “Psychameleon“ and „Charlotte“ which begins with a sound collage of Booka Shade radio interviews/jingles and finishes with the vocodered vocal refrain, “I never said I was true!” And finally their wide range of styles is showcased in the Latin-sounding tune “Comacabana“ and the country-tinged track “Dusty Boots”.
In contrast to these upbeat tunes the album closes with the peaceful “You Don’t Know What You Mean To Me (J’s Lullaby)“, a song Walter Merziger has written while his newborn son slept beside him.
The first single from the album is the double A-side “Planetary/City Tales” out now and available to listen to on the band’s myspace page.

Ellen Allien will release a new solo longplayer titled ’SOOL’ on Bpitch Control on May 27th, 2008.
Following Ellen Allien´s Boogy Bytes compilation (out now on BPitch Control), SOOL is her fourth artist album and was recorded and produced with Berlin-based artist AGF this winter.
Everything on SOOL circles around the word “minimal”, which Allien describes in a press release as follows: “What does minimal mean to me? Minimal is just there. Permuting that, shaping this kind of immediacy with my own hands - that was close to my heart.”
