Release Notes
Its not only their five records on MBF and two huge hits which have made Piemont decide to record an album.
Much more than that, it is their consistency over the last years with various releases and remixes also on
other labels, plus not accepting any conmpromise on style and quality that made them record a whole album
of new tracks called: "Strange World Beyond" .
Dedicated to the deep sea, each track plays a special role for them with this concept album.
"Carbonat" and "Black Smoker" catapulted Piemont into many charts and DJ lists and established their unique and outstanding sound. They have been supported heavily in the past by Richie Hawtin, DJ Hell, Dubfire, John Digweed, Deep Dish, Carl Cox, Oliver Koletzki, Oliver Huntermann and more...

Release Notes:
Soma Records are without question one of the most respected
long standing labels around today, with an artist base that
includes Slam, Silicone Soul and Funk DЄVoid. Now they are
proud to launch a new offshoot imprint entitled Somabeta,
dedicated to the music of new and emerging talent from around
the world. With 2008 having introduced us to Harvey McKay, the
Somabeta Compilation, due for release in the next few weeks
features many other of the artists who have now joined the
extended Soma family of artists.
In January 2009, Soma will launch an exciting new project,
Somabeta, the imprints offshoot tailored for new emerging
talent. As part of Somas continuing support of new music
Somabeta will provide an avenue for fresh, upcoming producers
to have their work released on Scotlands biggest exporter of
electronic music, welcoming work from artists around the
world. Throughout 2008, Soma welcomed more new acts to the
label than ever before. Among these are Mr Copy, Harvey McKay,
Jandroide and Lets Go Outside, each of whom appear here as
part of the Somabeta series. A number of the names on the
compilation are however entirely new to the label and demand
some introduction.
The compilation opens with South American production duo
Audiofillia, who have two tracks on the album with Eazy and
Tu. Argentinas Andy Dabula and Ecuadors current hot property,
Daniel Jaramillo, make up the act in a partnership that
creates a unique combination of sci-tech atmospheres, sweet
latin-flavoured grooves and deep melodic sounds.
After Lets Go Outsides mammoth remix competition earlier in
2008 Jean Ramesse, a young producer, promoter and label owner
who works constantly with his devastating Sleaze techno nights
and label of the same name, emerged as winner. His remix of
LGO is a thunderous rampage on the original, playing with
dynamic in the extreme, toying with you until one final,
massive jacking session finishes you off.
Gary Beck is a young Glaswegian producer currently whipping up
quite a storm on the global house and techno circuit.
Alongside his release on Somabeta, Gary has releases on Perc
Trax, Variance and Mezzotinto and is soon to be releasing on
Edit Select and Minus also. Watch out for Garys production in
2009 as he promises to be one of the next big names in
electronic music.
Joe Stawarz was picked up on Somas radar back in 2007 when he
won Slams Beatport remix contest. Hailing from Perth,
Australia, Joe is a classically trained musician with an
incredible passion for house and techno. His work is finely
detailed to the last snare, with a well-crafted, deep and
crisp tech-house sound that has already been setting floors on
fire. Soma received a selection of his tracks shortly after
his victory in the remix contest and have been waiting
patiently for the best opportunity to release these beasts
upon the world. Another one to expect huge things from in 09.
Since his first release on Rush Hour in 2007, Sui Generis
productions have found their way into the record bags of
techno DJs like Derrick May, Kenny Larkin, Juan Atkins,
Laurent Garnier and Funk DЄVoid. Its these first wave of
techno jocks that seem to be particularly attracted to Sui
Generis productions. And thats definitely not an insult. With
a timeless sound his style lies between techno and house, with
big love for the deep.
Artwork on the Somabeta compilation is an innovative new
design from Shweta Malhotra in India. This originally came as
a runner up in the Soma 2008 Artwork Competition held with
Resident Advisor, held to seek out new designers for the 2008
end of year compilation. However when considering artwork for
the new Somabeta series it was immediately apparent that the
image of the wire baby was perfect and so this has now become
the cover of Somabeta002. |

With his new Maxi on Cocoon Recordings, Guy Gerber, our man for the big
emotional moments on the dancefloor, will make our eyes shine bright in
Christmas anticipation. After releases for his own label Supplement Facts, the
club hits "Sea Of Sand", "Belly Dancing" and not to forget, his album debut
"Late Bloomers", the Tel-Aviv-based Gerber could be found rightly in top
positions in many newcomer listings in the past year. 2008 was a little more
calm for him, but with "Timing", being just in time for the final, he again sets
new standards in linking harmony with a hedonistic state of emergency. While
"Timing" pleases us like a nocturnal-hypnotic romance in between a disco bass
line, "Age of Love" flair and winterly sleigh bells, "Guilty Pleasures" takes
back this playful love of details to the benefit of a tropical-dense percussive
dub, however without appearing less mandatory on the dancefloor. Consequently,
Gerber will be playing together with Sven Vдth at Christmas Eve in the
CocoonClub Frankfurt.

Dan Curtin is back and banging drums! His A-side, "Beat Fiend" is right on the
nose! A sole drummer in a transcendental musical village warmly welcomes the
listener followed by several hollow rolling drums as pied piper ravels and
whirls through the village.
Pressure and tension build up through various woodwinds and percussion as
instrument-armed villagers pour out into empty alleys in synchronized dance
motions spreading revolutionary joy throughout the ceremonial voyage. Listen
closely, a single faded hip-hop lyricist leads the people to a full blown dance
party. This track effectively plays the puppeteer to anyone listening;
manipulating and leaving no limbs to rest.
The B-side, "Amphibian" sets a more tragic and mellow tone. Rolling keyboards
and flaring rockets soar through this track creating a virtual battle ground of
disturbed vocals and twisted souls. The main drum beat creates a ceaseless flow
throughout a chaotic story introducing ghosts of past, present and future. Dan
decided to veer away from "the usual" with this creation; a track that seeps
only into the deepest darkest thoughts of the listener.
The digital bonus, "Marsupial" takes its listeners on a radical journey through
a 1980s action film. With surprises and suspense around every corner, this track
is primitive of its ability to contain numerous tools and gadgets without losing
its flow.
Not everyone likes chocolate and Dan knew exactly that when creating this
threedimensional release.

Brand new Intrusion! The first killer twelve of 2009 and the
perfect way to soothe the post NYE hangover. The title track
"Seduction" is an epic beauty as deep as the sea which does
exactly as the title suggest, a sort of seduction of sound if you
will, so immersive you could swim in it's three dimensions. The
bass line is so deep you can feel the vibrations in Jamaica! The
song soars along and in minutes reveals its magical analogue
frequencies as shards of blissful chords sail around your speakers
in a full spectrum panorama affair so easy to sink into. Next up
is "Silence" leading us into ambient territory for a short but
sweet three minute excursion which I could only imagine as a
soundtrack while floating in deep space. The release comes to a
close with cv313's near 12 minute rendition, a beautiful dub house
soundscape filled with tribal rhythms and gorgeous atmosphere
recalling moments from Echospace's landmark album "The Coldest
Season" on Modern Love. This is music which clearly focuses on
every fine detail, filled with loads of space and bass and the
analogue warmth we've come to love from the Echospace signature.
As with all things Echospace this is severely limited and is
pressed on to beautiful mixed coloured vinyl.

Righteous sleaze from the man like KDJ. This is undoubtedly the
best we've heard from Moodymann in quite some time. On Freeki MF
he's sounds like the love child of Issac Hayes and Prince doing it
gently for the ladies over a deep grinding house beat. Check the
free poster that comes with the record to see Moodymann rocking
the pimped out look. Heaven and Untitled are classic KDJ disco
groover's. The final track is the UR alike Det.riot which has
samples of police reports from the Detroit riots over militant
electro.
