From the current trend of ethno influenced techno you can take what you
will, but at least with the new release from Jackspot it doesn’t all sound
like pan flutes and Peruvians in ponchos! Maybe that’s because as a native of
Lisbon, the Portuguese Filipe Furao has somehow grown up with the Latin groove
in his blood. Perhaps also because in his long career as a musician he
has moved from Hip-Hop to Nu-Metal while always keeping an eye on his
roots. With his new Highgrade Digital release Jackspot combines these organic
ethnic sounds with a clinical understanding of straight mathematical
techno. He creates an effortless balancing act between a summer beach feel and
his darker desires, and in doing so gives the tracks a whole new
language of their own. In the track “lhaka”, we hear an intoxicating interplay of drifting
vocal and percussion samples. The many different drums are never cluttered, and manage
to skilfully narrate stories from another world. In “la flute”, Furao
deliberately plays with disharmonies that are absorbed within a straight bassline,
while the drums roll in an unstoppable advance. Jackspot reaches his
undeniable peak in “gaza of peace”. A spherical sound wave washes the listener
deep into the sea of sound. There is no other way to express it other than
with such a cliche'! Impressive!

Stefan Kozalla makes house music so cannily
programmed, strange and raw that techno kids want him
for their own. But Kozalla isn't letting go—no matter
how many samples he draws out like taffy or extended
synth modulations he slides through fat, fucked-up
beats, he stands rooted in the raw, eccentric
fundament of house. It's a place where everything
bounces off of everything else and there's no space
between you, your sweat and the music.
Rich, earthy drums pound for two solid minutes at the
start of "Mrs Bojangels," then undergo a series of
hallucinations as real as anything you'll see on a
three-day fast, only to re-emerge as ultra-clipped
dots and dashes, slowly pounding out code for the
first transplanetary railroad. "Dr Fuck" is just as
good, or maybe it's better. Demonic downtuned muppets
nattering about deep house mate with Prince's "Bob
George" on the vocal, inducing you to jack while
oddly looming incidental percussion and a heavy,
rippling undercurrent of bass kicks force you to
obey. Absolutely first-rate.

After having released several remixes and records on different labels Christian
Burkhardt strikes back on raum...musik with his third single for our label. Just

Hot on the heels of one of 2009's hottest tracks to date, Pitto's "Feelin'",
comes the next golden nugget from Edwin Oosterwal and Joris Voorn's incredible
Rejected label. This time we are presented with the first of an exciting new
series from label head Voorn. The Dusty House series see's us first enter "Room
1". Inside we find two choice cuts that perfectly showcase Voorn's sublime
ability to be able to create beautiful textures, dept and fullness to his
sounds. "Sweep The Floor" finds us delving into oldskool territory. Tricky
hi-hats, get eaten up by the subtle marching bassline that increases in
strength. A cheeky guitar lick, horn stabs, vocal drop and we're off. Its a
floor burner of the highest order, and one that will keep the floor grooving
throughout! "Empty Trash" (you following the theme right?), show's Voorn's skill
of injecting his techno weight into his house productions. Here he gives us
menacing synths, that stalk us. Yet when primed and at their most dangerous,
perfectly timed, he drops the vocal, and wraps us in the comforting bassline.
Joris Voorn has mastered the skill that all producers search long and hard for.
His ability to consistantly deliver music that connects and creates euphoric
feeling on the floor is, right now, unmatched. "Lets Go Juno", "Blank" and his
recent remix of "Namgo's Kitchen" are perfect examples. Here, with "Room 1" of
the "Dusty House" Series we have the next installment!
