Finally! A full-length release from Alka. If any electronic ambient album should be labeled elite, this is one of them. Blissful melodies, sharp and innovative rhythm work, and atmospheres bigger than the universe are all stuffed into these 12 songs. Very reminiscent of old Future Sound of London, Arovane, Plaid, etc., but in a fresh new cutting edge way.
Seemingly caught in garageband limbo, alka (Bryan Michael) would have liked to believe that by now, humans would have progressed in their musical tastes. Besides, a computer can out-solo a stunt guitarist any day. Experimenting in a genre largely criticized for it's lack of emotion, Alka blends styles to create music that is both melancholic and uplifting; synthetic yet melodic. Alka's music is vast enough to go well with wide open spaces or condensed urban settings... it is the place where lucidity and obscurity meet. |

Ребятки, кто в теме, порекомендуйте, пожалуйста, какого-нибудь дремучего мрак-этно-эмбиента! Тока не околонью-эйджевую бадягу, а что-нибудь реально аутентичное. Всяческие заросшие мхом поющие бабушки, припадочные кликуши и камлающие шаманы приветствуются! Такого бы, чтоб мороз бежал по спине и чувствовалось Незримое Присутствие Древнего Потустороннего! Заранее благодарствую!

This incredibly beautiful album is the latest
in a series of increasingly indispensable
collaborations between Machinefabriek and
Mariska Baars of Soccer Committee, the pair
creating a sound that takes in elements of
drone, shoegaze, Americana and modern
experimentation to produce a quiet, utterly
engrossing body of work.
Zuydervelt's impact on song structure is at once
dramatic yet intuitive, taking Baars' guitar and
voice to ethereal plains that suit her delivery
perfectly. Something like 'Very Well Drawn' is
how you might want one of Susanna Wallumrod's
collaborations with Deathprod to turn out -
bristling with warm electronic tones, microsound
crackle and evaporated vocals. Similarly, the
incredibly immersive drone textures of 'Magpie'
integrate wonderfully well with Baars' hushed
utterances and even more esoteric works, such as
'Thole I' yield commendable results, laying on
noisy distortion figures and high frequency
screeches, all the while Baars' voice being
layered and harmonised in an abrasive, but
ultimately gobsmackingy beautiful choral
fashion.
One of the most outstandingly lovely moments
comes on 'Di-O-Day', a sparse and folksy number
that makes good use of Franz Hautzinger's morose
trumpet lines. Like so much of this album
there's a natural and immersive dialogue between
musicians and machines without ever stating the
obvious or taking the road most travelled, and
for that Drawn is to be commended. An absolutely
wonderful album - Essential Purchase. |

Debut EP from hotly tipped Glasgow based producer Wireman, offering up his first batch of tracks
for public consumption via Trus'me's Prime Numbers imprint. Wireman has been tipped by Trus'me
himself as "A melting pot where Carl Craig, Deepchord, Burial and Drexciya are all put together"
and the description is fairly apt, as title track 'Armour' sounds to us like the freshened Detroit styles
of Andy Stott mixed with the rich dub elements of Deepchord in a well balanced blend that will
immediately win him fans. The flipside tracks are where matters diverge into other areas, with 'Axiom'
running off on another tangent entitrely, towards heavy dub tech in a similar style to Andy Stott's
steppin' technoid dub explorations or a darker revision of Aardvarck's recent 'Bloom' 12". Final track
'Perspex' makes the Drexciya tag fit with an off kilter electro workout that also reminds us of 'Stay Down'
era Two Lone Swordsmen, and finishes what looks to be a very promising start for Wireman.
