Review:
The Gaslamp Killer is a savage dj from SD that brings you bad-ass instrumental murder music, like he likes to call it. You might know the man from his group MHE (he and Gonjasufi aka Sumach from GPAC fame) and their releases on Sound In Color, or maybe you already met the guy at TurntableLab LA... Anyway, he's also a serious damager when it comes to mix-cd.
Gaslamp Killers, his first exercice, is a 70 minutes journey into wild abstract hip hop, perfectly mixed, perfectly recorded... If like me you were deep into the movement, early Mo'Wax stuff, and generally dark and bangin beats, you'll love it.

this actually isn't true at all
this mix is made by adam from MHE using a bunch of records he borrowed from GLK in return for GLK letting MHE sample some of his records for their productions. neither gaslamp killer nor gonja sufi are actually in MHE (regardless of how it seems on their myspace pages)
support this shit - GLK and MHE are the fucking TRUTH of this shit!!

MHE stands for Machines Have Emotions and comprise:
Adam Manella
Mike Raymond Russell
They have recorded an album for Sound In Color which will be out next month and have signed to Stones Throw under their own names.
The deal with the mix isn't that hard to understand man - if you consider some of the records Adam has sampled from Willow (Gaslamp Killer) then it's probably been more valuable to him and MHE as there's a fair chance some of the records would be almost impossible to find and would demand some serious $ outlay even if they were found.
EVERYONE should check MHE. MHE is the truth. MHE is the illest, rawest heavy shit out there right now in my opinion. MHE is what I want to hear from hip-hop. |

Actually I just made that mix for him to help him get some gigs back in like 2001. He played it for this guy at sound in color named jon and he put it out for 2000 usd. The gaslamp killer and I split the money. That was in 2003. After that he just kept making copies to sell and kept all the money and credit for himself. The gaslamp killer really has a large trip hop collection but as far as the few records he gave us to sample years ago being worth alot of money and him digin deeper than the homies, that is not the case.
