With influences ranging from Hatebreed, to Shadows Fall, to the Dillinger Escape Plan, Brighton, England's Architects play a complex mixture of metalcore, death, and math metal, laced with alternately violent and comedic lyrics. After getting their start in 2005, the group recorded their debut album, Nightmares, the very next year with a lineup consisting of twin brothers Tom (guitar) and Dan Searle (drums), Tim Hillier-Brook (guitar), Tim Lucas (bass), and Matt Johnson (vocals); but the latter was to be replaced on-stage by new frontman Sam Carter in January of 2007, during the last show of the band's subsequent tour. Later that year, Architects recorded their sophomore effort, Ruin (introducing new bass player Ali Dean), and signed a worldwide deal with Century Media for its re-release in 2008. Their first American tour was next on the agenda, and saw the group paired up with Suicide Silence, Beneath the Massacre, and the Tony Danza Tapdance Extravaganza, among other bands. Upon their return to England, the band has recently recorded their third album, 'Hollow Crown', which was released in the UK and Australia on January 26, 2009. It was released in the USA and Canada on February 10, Mainland Europe on the 20th, and Japan on the 21st.
They recently toured the US with Suicide Silence, Emmure, Beneath the Massacre, and The Tony Danza Tapdance Extravaganza followed by the European Altamonte Never Say Die! tour with Whitechapel, Protest the Hero, Carnifex, Parkway Drive, Unearth and Despised Icon.
The band's success has been gradual. They said in an interview that they were happy when they got signed to Century Media: "We’re really excited to have finally got the deal finished and signed, so much so that we all went out for a pizza the day that everything was finally made 100% official."
Their 2009 touring plans are some of the bands biggest tours yet. In October 2009 they headline the 2009 Altamonte Never Say Die! Tour with support from Despised Icon, As Blood Runs Black, HORSE The Band, Iwrestledabearonce, Oceano and The Ghost Inside. They are also set to be touring the US as openers on the 2009 Epitaph Records tour alongside Every Time I Die and Bring Me The Horizon.
