Laraaji (born 1943) is an American musician. Born Edward Larry Gordon in Philadelphia, he studied violin, piano, trombone and voice in his early years in New Jersey. He attended Howard University, a historically black university in Washington, D.C. on a scholarship to study composition and piano. After studying at Howard, he spent time in New York pursuing a career as a stand-up comedian and actor.
In the early seventies he began to study Eastern mysticism and believed he’d found a new path for his music and his life. It was also at this time he bought his first zither from a local pawn shop. Converting it to an electronic instrument, he began to experiment using the instrument like a piano. By 1978, he developed enough skill to begin busking in the parks and on the sidewalks of New York.
The following year he was «discovered» by Brian Eno while playing in Washington Square Park. The result was his most widely-recognized release, Ambient 3: Day of Radiance, the third installment of Brian Eno’s Ambient series. This was his first album released under the name of Laraaji.
This international exposure led to many requests for longer versions of his compositions which he supplied to many meditation groups on cassette tapes. It also resulted in an expansion of his mystic studies with such gurus as Swami Satchidananda and Shri Brahmananda Sarasvati, founder of the Ananda Ashram in Monroe, New York.

ohmy.gif Sweet Jeezus ! Открытие ! Благодарю, друзья. Ввиду схожести инструментов (хоть и разных его модификаций) считаю уместным провести параллель с Shivkumar Sharma Для кого-то это может быть полезным

Two new Laraaji albums on the way
Sun Gong and Bring On The Sun, taken from the same recording sessions, will be out in September via All Saints.
Two new albums from ambient and new age music legend Laraaji, Sun Gong and Bring On The Sun, will see release in September.

The albums, coming through All Saints, were both created with material recorded during nine hours of jamming. Sun Gong is made up of two side-long drone pieces that explore "the microtonal possibilities of a hammered gong processed through various electronic effects." Arriving a couple weeks after that is Bring On The Sun, a double-vinyl release that we're told sees Laraaji presenting a wider range of sounds.

Both LPs will be packed together as a two-CD set as well. They were edited and mixed by Carlos Niño, a prolific producer with similar inclinations towards new age and freeform music. He'll tour Europe with Laraaji in November.

Laraaji, who has been releasing music for some four decades (his first major record was the Brian Eno-produced Ambient 3 (Day Of Radiance) LP, from 1980), has a longtime connection with All Saints, and the London label has helped to champion his work since the early '90s.
Tracklist
Sun Gong
A Sun Gong No.1
B Sun Gong No.2

Bring On The Sun

02. Harmonica Drone

04. Laraajazzi
05. Change
06. Reborn In Virginia

All Saints will release Sun Gong and Bring On The Sun in September 2017.
